A novel free base phthalocyanine, ImHPc (C140H116N16) was developed by incorporating the triphenyl imidazole moiety at its peripheral positions. A detailed analysis of the UV-visible absorption, emission and transient absorption spectra were studied. The Emission studies reveal the fluorescence peak 695 nm to 705 nm and the time-resolved fluorescence data exposed radiative lifetimes of typically few ns. Transient absorption studies (TAS) reveal two singlet lifetimes in picoseconds while single triplet lifetime in microseconds. This makes our molecule ideal for applications in photonics like solar cells and photomedicine like fluorescence imagining, Photodynamic therapy (PDT), etc.
