dc.description.abstract Triplet-triplet absorption spectra of 1- and 2-naphthaldehyde have been studied in laser flash photolysis experiments. Triplet lifetimes are found to vary with laser intensity and concentration of the solution. Sensitization of naphthaldehyde triplets with thioxanthone and biphenyl in flash photolysis and pulse radiolysis experiments lead to the same spectra as produced by direct excitation. It has been concluded that only the lowest 3π-π* state is responsible for the observed triplet-triplet absorption spectra. © 1988.
