dc.description.abstract We discuss how space-time noncommutativity affects the symmetry groups and particle statistics. Assuming that statistics is superselected under a symmetry transformation, we argue that the corresponding flip operator must be twisted. It is argued that the twisted statistics naturally leads to a deformed oscillator algebra for scalar fields in such a background. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
