dc.description.abstract In a mobile database environment, multiple mobile hosts may update the data items simultaneously irrespective of their physical locations. This may result in inconsistency of data items. Several Concurrency Control techniques have been proposed to eliminate the inconsistency of data items. Timeout based strategies are proposed in the literature to reduce the starvation problem in mobile environments with reduced rollbacks. However in each attempt the time of execution of the transaction is unnecessarily wasted though the timer value is known. In this paper we propose a strategy which executes a transaction only when the sufficient time is available for execution or the remaining time of execution is comparatively less. Experimental results show better throughput, and less waiting time for individual transactions. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
