dc.description.abstract The binding energies of a neutral hydrogenic donor centre (D 0) and a negatively charged hydrogenic ion (D -) trapped in a three-dimensional quantum dot with Gaussian confinement are obtained by a variational method with a very simple wave function containing a Jastrow-like factor. The results are obtained as a function of the quantum dot size and the confinement strength and are compared with those available in the literature. The resultant dipole moment of a (D -) complex is also calculated. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
