dc.description.abstract This chapter examines research and writings about the Constitution and state institutions in India. It explains that while a large number of studies have focused on the politics of democratic assertion, very little work has been devoted to the role played by public institutions in the democratization process. The analysis reveals the success of the Constitution in overcoming challenges by taking all sections of Indian society on board in governing the country. It also highlights the effectiveness of the mechanisms of checks and balances of state institutions.
