dc.description.abstract A modification of pour plate technique with an overlay of wax was used for isolation and enumeration of purple non-sulfur bacteria (PNSB) with equal efficiency as that of agar shake culture. The total count of PNSB ranged from 10 5-10 8 CFU g dry soil -1 and belonged to the genera of Rhodobacter, Rhodopseudomonas, Rhodocista and Rubrivivax. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
