Abstract
Syntheses, crystal structures and properties of three ion pair compounds [C5H7N2]3[BiCl6] (1), [C5H7N2][C5H8N 2][BiCl6] (2) and [C10H10N 2]2[Bi2Cl10] (3) have been described. Compounds 1 and 2 crystallize in triclinic system (space group, P-1), whereas compound 3 crystallizes in monoclinic sysyem (space group, P2 1/c). In their crystal structures, supramolecular hydrogen bonding interactions between bismuth-chloro anion and organic cation play an important role in the stabilization of [BiCl6]3- and [Bi 2Cl10]4- anions in the title ion pair compounds. Compounds 1, 2 and 3 are characterized by routine spectral analyses and elemental analyses, besides crystal structure determinations. Compounds 1, 2 and 3 are additionally characterized by thermogravimetric analyses. Compound [C5H7N2][C5H8N 2][BiCl6] (2) exhibits emission spectrum at room temperature in the visible region. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
