dc.description.abstract A method based on the complexation of amphiphiles with a polyelectrolyte was used to explore the deaggregation of chromophores at the air-water interface. An analysis of the electronic absorption spectra of the dye-polyelectrolyte Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film was conducted. The results indicate that polyelectrolyte complexation is an efficient route to achieve complete deaggregation of the dye molecules in the LB film. The impact of the polyelectrolyte in enhancing the second harmonic generation (SHG) response through effective deaggregation is also demonstrated.
