dc.description.abstract We investigate the effect of R-parity violation in the rare semileptonic decay mode Λb → Λμ+μ-. In the standard model this process is highly suppressed as it is induced by the FCNC mediated b → s transition, which occurs only through loops. However, in the R-parity violating supersymmetric model it occurs at the tree level due to the exchange of sleptons and squarks. We find that due to this new tree level contribution, its branching ratio is enhanced reasonably from the corresponding standard model value. We also find a nonvanishing transverse Λ polarization, the observation of which in future B factories would strongly indicate the presence of new physics. © 2005 IOP Publishing Ltd.
