Abstract
Slot machines: A new type of syceelike organometallic container complexes that resemble organic calix[4]arenes has been prepared. These metal calix[4]arenes feature tunable size, color, solubility, and functionality and have specific hydrophobic cavities that are sufficiently large to accommodate and recognize a variety of aromatic guest molecules, similar to inserting a coin in a slot machine (see pictures).
