Water helices surrounding the nano-channels of trichlorophloroglucinol and tribromophloroglucinol have different handedness, PMPMPM and PPPMMM (P = right-handed, M = left-handed), depending on halogen⋯halogen interactions between the host molecules. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2005.
