Telangana movement democratisation or authoritarianism?

Abstract

In spite of widespread support in Andhra Pradesh for the Telangana cause, there seems to be an impasse over statehood for the region. This can be traced to the nexus bet ween the state and the mafia-backed Seemandhra oligarchy, which has increasingly be7en calling the shots in recent years. The Telangana movement offers the only credible hope of changing the iniquitous structures of power and control in the state and its failure could see the forces of lawlessness acquiring new strength, with disastrous consequences for the common people.
