Abstract
In the title compound, [2-(α-hydroxybenzylidene-hydrazonomethyl)phenolato(2-)-N,O,O′](methanol-0)-(methyl salicylato-0,O′)rnanganese(III), [Mn(BHS)-(MS)(CH3OH)], the manganese(III) ion is surrounded by an O5N coordination sphere. The tridentate 2-(α-hydroxybenzylidenehydrazonomethyl)phenol-ate (BHS2-) ligand (H2BHS is the benzoyl hydrazone of salicylaldehyde) binds the metal ion meridionally and the methyl salicylate (MS-) ligand is bidentate. The sixth position is occupied by a methanol molecule. There is a significant tetragonal elongation due to a Jahn-Teller effect.
